There are a lot of Search Engine. Here a list of what I found:

  • http://www.hakia.com/ (Beta): The basic promise is to bring search results by meaning match - similar to the human brain’s cognitive skills - rather than by the mere occurrence (or popularity) of search terms;
  • http://www.powerset.com/index.html (Not still released) : consumer search engine based on natural language processing.
  • http://www.chacha.com/ (Beta): ChaCha’s goal is to provide a better search experience by combining results that are hand-picked by our knowledgeable human guides with the best computer-generated search results;
  • http://search.wikia.com: A project by Wikia to create the search engine that changes everything;
  • http://www.kayak.com/ : Kayak.com searches hundreds of travel sites to give you the widest possible choice of flights and prices;
  • http://www.toptenwholesale.com/: TopTenWholesale is a vertical search engine that connects buyers of general merchandise wholesale products to manufactures, importers, distributors, auctioneers, independent retailers, flea marketers, drop shippers and any reseller of new and closeouts merchandise;

and at the end also: http://yahoo.com/ , http://www.live.com/ e http://ask.com/ .

Microsoft going to buy Yahoo?

7 05 2007

Microsoft LogoMicrosoft seems to be interested in buying Yahoo. Everybody wonders if it’s good or not. At the moment we only know that Microsoft is old and it’s not able to compete on the web market. Yahoo have great technology (I like the new mail app) but it’s not able to grow in the ads market.
Yahoo logo 2So? Everything depends by the business-plan. If Yahoo will be englobed by MS, everybody loses, we too. If instead Yahoo will become the new Microsoft web division with the possibility to manage everything (and making IE more compatible!) and have “hands free” on MS web technology, maybe something good could born. We’ll see!
